After the World War II, the originally large Jewish community of Békéscsaba was reduced due to deportations and emigration, so both buildings were sold by the National Community of Hungarian Jews in the 1960s. After that, the community could only practice its faith in a smaller house, so it became necessary to build a new synagogue.
Finally, the new building was inaugurated in 2008 in the Széchenyi Park, next to the Jewish cemetery. Interestingly, this is the only synagogue built in Central and Eastern Europe since World War II.
